Supporting the Great Bear Rainforest Carbon Project

As a customs broker and freight forwarding company operating on North America’s West Coast, we are committed to offsetting all CO2 emissions from our operations and shipments we arrange. We consider this investment in valuable carbon projects as our contribution to the community and environment we serve.

Why We Chose the Great Bear Rain Forest Project

The Great Bear Rain Forest represents the world’s largest intact coastal temperate rainforest, spanning 6.4 million hectares on the west coast. This globally rare ecosystem is home to ancient cedars, towering spruce, grizzly bears, coastal wolves, Pacific salmon, and the iconic Spirit Bear—a white black bear found nowhere else on Earth.

We selected this project because it aligns with our values and operations:

  • First Nations Partnership: The project has equal involvement with coastal First Nations and operates on Traditional Territory with unextinguished Aboriginal Rights and Title
  • Forest Conservation: Protects trees that naturally sequester carbon while preserving critical wildlife habitat
  • Coastal Ecosystem: Safeguards the world’s largest intact coastal temperate rainforest and its marine connections

How the Project Works

The Great Bear Rain Forest Carbon Project prevents commercial logging through Improved Forest Management practices, converting previously approved harvest areas into protected forests. This landmark initiative has achieved an 85% reduction in harvesting across the region while generating carbon offsets for the voluntary market.

Community Impact

Revenue from carbon offset sales supports:

  • Stewardship Programs: Employment for First Nations communities in forest monitoring and protection
  • Guardian Watchmen: Traditional land and water protection roles
  • Community Development: Youth programs, elder centers, and bear safety education
  • Economic Opportunities: Long-term employment in areas with historically high unemployment

Environmental Benefits

This coastal temperate rainforest—one of Earth’s rarest ecosystems—provides critical habitat for endangered species while supporting the complex relationship between Pacific salmon, forest wildlife, and ancient trees. The salmon carry ocean nutrients inland, feeding bears and wolves who then distribute these nutrients throughout the forest, creating a vital cycle that sustains the entire ecosystem.

Through our support for the Great Bear Rain Forest Carbon Project, our business operations contribute to the preservation of this irreplaceable natural treasure and honour the Indigenous communities who have been its guardians for thousands of years.
